Perak
The Silver State's Golden Faith
Perak is home to one of Malaysia's oldest and most respected royal institutions — the Perak Sultanate. The Ubudiah Mosque in Kuala Kangsar, built in 1917 by the British architect Arthur Benison Hubback, is considered one of the most beautiful mosques in Malaysia. Perak also holds the oldest Islamic school in the country, Madrasah Idrisiah, founded in 1922. The state is a blend of Malay royal heritage, Chinese tin-mining history, and deep Islamic tradition.

Ubudiah Mosque

The crown jewel of Perak's Islamic architecture. Built in 1917 by Sultan Idris Murshidul Azzam Shah, with golden domes and Italian marble floors. Often cited as the most beautiful mosque in Malaysia. The minarets and domes are iconic. Located in the royal town of Kuala Kangsar.
Masjid Al-Wusta (Ipoh)
A modern mosque in Ipoh's city center. Known for its clean, minimalist architecture and excellent facilities. Popular with the city's young Muslim professionals. The surrounding area has many halal restaurants and Islamic bookshops.
Masjid Ar-Rahman (Taiping)
Located in Taiping, Malaysia's wettest town. A historic mosque built in the late 19th century, blending colonial and Malay architecture. The surrounding Lake Gardens (Taman Tasik Taiping) make it a peaceful prayer destination.

Halal Food Trail
Ipoh Bean Sprout Chicken (Halal Version)
Ipoh's most famous dish — poached chicken with crunchy bean sprouts and soy sauce. The halal version uses halal chicken and is widely available. Lou Wong and Onn Kee are the most famous, but look for Muslim-owned versions in Kampung Simee.
Ipoh Hor Fun (Halal)
Flat rice noodles in a silky chicken broth with prawns and shredded chicken. The halal version is available at Muslim-owned coffee shops. The secret is in the Ipoh water — locals say it makes the noodles uniquely smooth.
Nasi Ganja (Nasi Kandar Ayam Merah)
Ipoh's viral rice dish — rice with a signature red-spiced fried chicken, curry, and vegetables. The 'ganja' name refers to its addictive quality, not the plant. Muslim-owned, and the queue is always long. Get there before 2 PM.
Kuala Kangsar Laksa
Perak's version of laksa — a coconut-curry noodle soup with shredded fish, cucumber, and mint. The Kuala Kangsar style is milder and sweeter than Penang's. Available at the Kuala Kangsar market. Fully halal.
